Fight of My Life (Inspired by boxing legend Jerry Quarry)
With these hands I fought a good fight And made a sound living with my pounding right I faced the big names that you’d recognize Hey, don’t you remember me Come see the photos hanging on my wall That’s me with Ali before the ref made the call I’d gone the distance except my left eye let me down Now don’t you remember me
Fight of my life, fight of my life, fight of my life
And I, I faced the massive blows And my head took the abuse But I drift and dwell and solace myself You know I gave some, too I gave out my share, too
Now I live with my big brother James It’s something to do with me having a boxers brain So I let him help with my socks and shoes And an occasional shave But I can’t blame it all on the ring The drugs and drinking were probably most punishing Cause they cloud your judgment Of when to walk away, at least they did for me
And I, I faced the massive blows And my head took the abuse But I drift and dwell and solace myself I did what I could do - But this one’s never through
It’s hard for me to get these words out But it’s been worth it, the fame, the money, every bout And I’d do it all again the same way I want you to remember me
